How we define the chemicals industry

To keep comparisons fair and apples-to-apples, we anchor this view to CPC subclasses that directly capture chemical compositions and processes. We emphasize C01–C09 (core chemical synthesis and compositions) and C10C/C10G (petroleum/related chemical processes).

Device-heavy or general manufacturing CPCs appear in their own industry views unless claims center on chemical transformation. Energy/clean-tech classes appear here only when the invention’s center of gravity is the chemistry, not systems integration. For multi-industry filings, we classify by the primary CPC and standardized rules documented in the methodology.
