How we define the computer science/IT industry

CS/IT spans core computing, business process platforms, and imaging/vision—often overlapping with fintech, health IT, and media. To keep comparisons fair and apples-to-apples, we anchor this view to CPC subclasses that most directly capture software, platforms, and computation. We emphasize G06F (digital computing), G06Q (business/IT process methods), and G06T (image data processing/vision).

We exclude peripheral classes that touch CS/IT indirectly to avoid diluting the signal. For multi-industry filings, we classify by the primary CPC and standardized rules documented in the methodology.
