TC 2100 handles applications generally relating to computers and software, including computer architecture, graphical user interfaces, and software development. Despite being the home of software patent applications, which have been heavily impacted by the Alice decision, its allowance rate of 80% is quite high. Below, we’ll take a look at several prosecution trends that have occurred in TC 2100 during the five-year period between 2013 and 2017 (which includes the Alice decision). Please note that all metrics herein are based on published applications only and do not account for all applications filed after the USPTO's 18-month publication delay period (in this case, January 2016).
